It idles at ~14inHg when warm and ~0inHg at full throttle.Ĩ) Temporarily disconnected EGR, no change.ĩ) Checked for catalyst plugging by temporarily installing a straight thru test pipe. MAF reads similar on both cars at idle (~6) and at part throttle/full throttle.ħ) Checked for vacuum leaks, replaced brake booster hoses, etc. There's a bit of pulley wobble, so I probably need to yank the pulley and check the keyway.ĥ) Replaced the injectors with ones cleaned and flowtested from Witchhunter, no change.Ħ) Swapped the MAFs from the two cars, very slight improvement so I cleaned both and reinstalled. Adjusted idle set screw and throttle cable stop.Ĥ) Changed both the cam angle sensor and crank angle sensor, adjusted the crank gap properly. IAC tests normal and appears to work properly when turning on the A/C. The scangauge indicated the TPS is working normally.

This helped the roughness in the idle and improved the throttle response somewhat.Ģ) Replaced the O2 sensor with a Bosch, some slight improvement.ģ) Bought a used throttle body with sensors, cleaned it up and installed it, no change. Here's what I've done recently to try to fix it:ġ) Was getting a P0300 so I built a COP conversion board and installed COPs. The TPS appears to function normally as noted below. Blipping the throttle from idle does nothing but richen the fuel mix and produce a slight change in rpm. When I go full throttle at 45mph both fuel trims go directly to zero, which is kind of odd.Ĥ) Throttle response is awful. Short term and long term fuel trims jump around a bit, but are otherwise relatively close to zero. It's like it is dumping fuel in but producing no power. The gauges indicate really bad instantaneous MPG (I've been averaging about 15mph recently), normal timing (21-22 deg) and fairly rich mixture. I'd guess a maximum of about 40rwhp.ģ) At light throttle/cruising at up to about 45mph it runs fairly well with no significant misfires, but stepping on the gas does practically nothing. When warm it's better but still very, very slow. I'm faster on my bicycle 0-30mph than the car. The requested timing is severely retarded at 0-15 degrees AFTER TDC.Ģ) When still fairly cold I have to rev it to >2000rpm and slip the clutch to get rolling and below around 3000rpm it barely accelerates. Turning the engine off and starting again makes no difference to this behavior, and it has never done it when starting warm.

If I step on the gas the stumble doesn't really change, but eventually it will stumble it's way up to 550/600/650/700rpm and then idle normally. But if I let it drop or idle at the "normal" 1200rpm it frequently will plunge to 500rpm and stumble/choke with the A/F showing extremely rich and no vacuum pressure. Here are some symptoms:ġ) When started cold if I give it gas and hold the idle at around 1500-2000rpm until it warms up to at least 150F it will then idle okay at ~900rpm. It has serious surge/hesitation problems, cranks but sometimes refuses to fire for about 10-15 seconds, sometimes gets stuck in a ~500rpm cold idle running extremely rich, barely can maintain 65mph on the highway, etc etc. I have a scangauge on it and a couple of other gauges (fuel pressure, boost/vac, narrowband air/fuel and voltmeter) in the second DIN radio slot. My wife's 99 is a disaster that I've been unable to diagnose and it's steadily getting worse. My 99 (bought from a forum member) runs great, gets 28 mpg and is generally a blast to drive. The first step is to admit you have a problem.
